Meet Lacey at Single Mom Out West

Meet Lacey, author of Single Mom Out West.

I’m Lacey, a single mom who is passionate about helping other moms grow in faith, fun, and new skills!

We will learn skills that decrease our anxiety and help us live a more prepared and functional life.

Hard times happen, but if we look closely enough, there is still joy and something amusing along the way! Life is big; God is bigger!

This is a place for the frowned-on mom and the misunderstood.

Compassion and understanding are the focus here. We are the moms who are just not making it.

Single moms are women of great courage and strength, but we may be the most misunderstood.

Moms that are exhausted and coming up short. It seems that no matter how hard we try, we still fail. This blog is for you.

We will learn to think ahead and take small steps to prepare for the future and decrease our anxiety in an unstable world.

I like to think ahead. My dad always told me to have something in my back pocket. It was his way of saying, prepare for what you’ll need in the future. As a single mom, this hits home.

“Don’t sell the old truck with good snow tires. Being prepared keeps us from being in a desperate spot. It might bring quick cash, but you’ll need it this winter.”

I’ve spent much time in that spot and would rather keep digging my way out of it.

We live in a chaotic and troubled world. As single moms, we have to think ahead and be prepared.

It is vital to think ahead for kids and their emotional, spiritual, and financial health.

I also want to think ahead for my kids. How can I help them become emotionally healthy and wise?

We must give our kids the understanding and skills to succeed in marriage, child-rearing, finances, employment, and relationships.

Would you mind letting me tell you a little about myself?

Single mom of four. Rescuer of small children and mid-sized kids. Monster slayer. Gourmet cook. Laundry executive. Director of Nursing. Finance Executive. Transportation Director. Director of Agriculture. Executive housekeeper. Family counselor. CEO of small business. Master Crafter. Stand-up comedian. Secretary of Education. Secretary of Defense.

Great. Isn’t that optimistic? Okay. Maybe not. But I do think I should at least get partial credit!

Here’s me in a nutshell.

I’m Lacey.

A single mom of four lively children. Emphasis on the “lively” part.

CEO of a small business.

Seriously, so insignificant, the Director of a Small Business in my town looked at me and called my business “small potatoes.”

She was an older woman with a great deal of wisdom. And a double chin. But I’m not bitter.

Homeschool Mom.

I homeschool these kids. It’s a relatively new and lively endeavor!

Somedays, I shake my head and wonder what I’ve gotten myself into. But on other days, when I see vast amounts of growth and healing, I know it’s worth it!

Head cook.

I cook almost every night and have perfected blackened chicken, blackened meatloaf, blackened potatoes, and blackened pork chops.

One of the blessed children recently asked me if I like everything burnt. I smiled dryly. He hasn’t yet developed his frontal lobe.

Local gardener.

I garden. Or at least that’s what I like to call it. I grow weeds and vegetables. Sometimes, the vegetables aren’t as big as the weeds, but I keep learning and trying new techniques.

Chicken farmer.

I raise chickens. They provide me with eggs and chicken drama: conflict, raw chicken emotion, and passion. You don’t need soap operas when you have chickens.

I have two handsome roosters and twenty-five hot hens. That chicken run has a lot of action; all my children know where “babies come from.”

My message is from one single mom to another:

I want to be here to make you laugh and to encourage you. I’m a single mom on a faith and love journey, and I don’t have it all together.

But I have learned lessons that have made my life more rewarding and manageable.

I’ve been a single mom now for quite a while. I’m reading, praying, studying, and working this all out, one day at a time.

I know it’s hard, but that doesn’t make it less than or set you up for failure. And I would like to take you with me on this journey.

Thanks for coming along with me! Let’s grab a coffee and get started.
