Peace of Mind and Hope for Christian Single Moms.

Finding hope for the Christian single mom is essential. Hope will lead you through the dark days.

Statistics for a single mom can be terrifying. And the reality isn’t much different. We do hard all day long. When I first became a single mom, I was so overwhelmed.

It took me a while to realize that God’s plan for my future wasn’t a bleak statistic. Hope was restored, and I had a lifeline to cling to.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

I began searching out verses that would bring me hope. One passage was particularly encouraging. Isaiah 54. I began to meditate and focus on this chapter daily.

Isaiah 54 ESV – The Eternal Covenant of Peace – Bible Gateway

The entire chapter was essential to my healing, but these lessons especially hit home.

God sees the single mom. He doesn’t shy away from those alone.

For the children of the desolate one will be more
    than the children of her who is married,” says the Lord. Isaigh 54:1b

I love how he acknowledges the singleness and aloneness. Our society often construed aloneness or singleness as “you didn’t make the cut.”

But that’s not what God thinks! He sees you are single and still plans to bless you with good things.

If you are walking with God, success will come. Sometimes, it takes a bit longer, but it will come.

“Enlarge the place of your tent,

    and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out;

do not hold back; lengthen your cords

    and strengthen your stakes.

For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left,

   and your offspring will possess the nations

   and will people the desolate cities.

Isaiah 54:2-3

We are not destined for failure; our children can have a legacy of self-esteem and respect.

Social welfare might be part of the story for a time, but it is not a long-term solution for God’s woman.

He has so much more for us. Success will come as we walk with God, follow his lead, and work hard. Poverty is not a place we stay.

You will not spend your life afraid, ashamed, or disgraced.

“Fear not, for you will not be ashamed;

    be not confounded, for you will not be disgraced;

for you will forget the shame of your youth,

    and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more. Isaiah 54:4

I’m not saying we won’t ever go through those things.

But they are not places we stay. They are not our destiny.

We may visit them briefly over the years, but God has so much more for us.

He has and will continue to give a place of esteem.

God has aligned himself with us, and he will never leave us.

For your Maker is your husband,

    the Lord of hosts is his name;

and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer,

    the God of the whole earth he is called.

For the Lord has called you

    like a wife deserted and grieved in spirit,

like a wife of youth when she is cast off,

    says your God. Isaiah 54:5-6

God chooses us. He wasn’t stuck with us but wanted us. His faithfulness is something we can trust.

This is hard to comprehend for those of us who have been rejected for someone else or something else. Meditation on this verse will help pound those truths deep in our hearts.

Here is some additional information regarding God’s love for you and walking with him:

His love is everlasting.

For the mountains may depart

    and the hills be removed,

but my steadfast love shall not depart from you,

    and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,”

    says the Lord, who has compassion on you. Isaiah 54:10

When I think of love, I think “seen, valued, and preferred—protected and cherished.

It’s hard to believe that the God who created the world loves me.

But I’m convinced that’s the secret to happiness in life.

Here is a beautiful song by Rachael Lampa.

Your children can grow in wisdom and peace.

All your children shall be taught by the Lord,

    and great shall be the peace of your children. Isaiah 54:13

This is the biggest of all the worries I’ve had since becoming a single mom.

And this verse meant the world to me. I want capable, wise children who have found peace in their deepest parts.

After reading this verse, I realized my kids would be just fine.

They are not destined to spend their lives failing and faltering.

God is their teacher, and great is their peace!

God fights with you, and your heritage comes from him.

This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord

    and their vindication[e] from me, declares the Lord.” Isaiah 54:17.

There are many challenging situations and some pretty toxic people in our lives.

I love the fact we do not have to face these things alone. I’m also glad that I have a heritage of strength and joy!

These are the truths I focus on when things get complicated. I hope they help you, too!

Please take time to read this incredible chapter. It will change the way you look at being a single mom.
